Two Lane Blacktop

One of my Favorite Movies is Two Lane Blacktop starting James Taylor (yes the 70's folk singer) and Dennis Wilson (of Beach Boys fame) along with that girl who married Art Garfunkel and Warren Oates.
The Movie has a plot in there some where, maybe? Ok the movies is really about Nothing, yes there it is about nothing because when they were making the movie, they figured everyone else was doing a movie about something, so we should do a movie about nothing! It goes like this you have the Driver (James Taylor) who rarely ever says anything and the Mechanic (Dennis Wilson) who complains about the Carberutor jets on the 454 in the Chevy not being right and then later you have the Girl (Laurie Bird) who the Driver and the Mechanic find in there car after they stop at a dinner in CA and they begin there journey back East. During this time there is some street racing, more seems of road, nice shots of the sexy badass 55 Chevy Gasser they driver and more random pointless talking about nothing.
Also you have GTO (Warren Oates) who owns a new 1970 GTO Judge with the 455, he picks up hitch hikers and changes his story everytime about how he got his GTO and who he is. Once he was a retired Fighter Pilot, another time he won the GTO in Vegas, another time he works for GM and is testing the car on a Cross Country Road trip and another time he won the GTO by racing to guys in his 55 Chevy Gasser.
The Driver, the mechanic and the girl eventually meet GTO at a gas station and challange to race to DC for Pink Slips and for some cash. Anyway the movie then gos back to more shots of the Sexy Grey 55 Chevy and the Hot 70 GTO Judge, they encounter some problems along the way (the GTOs carb gave out, the girl tried running away, etc) anyway after awhile they come to some small town in TN and enter a drag racing, where the 55 Chevy makes some nice passes, there is also a Plymouth Duster Funny Car called Super Duster, and more Chevy's and MOPARS. At the event the Girl leaves with GTO and the Driver and the Mechanic decide to go get her back and they find them at a Diner in another town, for the girl to leave and for GTO to countune on his own to NYC (yeah they just stop the DC race) and the Driver and The Mechanic take the 55 to an abandon Airport to race a 68 Cuda and the movie ends at the Airport.

It is a great movie, probably the Best Street Racing/Drag Racing movie out there. Lots of great cars, the pointless dialogue is actually humorous and enjoyable, though like I said pointless. The over all theme of the movie is suspose to be Nihilism, but it ended being more about badass 55 Chevy's, GTO's, drag racing and American Classics to gearheads. I say it is a Must see movie.

NMCA True Street

Now some of you may have heard of the National Muscle Car Association's(NMCA) True Street class, if you haven't now you will have. The NMCA's Street Street is a class for Street Legal Muscle cars where, the cars take a 30 mile cruise around town(American Graffiti style) and then make 3 heads up passes and fastest average time wins.
Now there are somethings that makes this class more interesting. After the cruise the Drivers are not allowed to make any, I MEAN ANY! Changes to there cars. They can't fix any problems, or put gas in there Cars or EVEN OPEN THE HOOD!. Your car has to remain the same, from the time you left the cruise, till after your 3 passes. The other great thing about this class, is that there are very mod restrictions, you can use any size engine block, any power adder, any transmission, any rear, any exhaust as long as it has mufflers, and any street legal tires(usually 10.5 tires). The car must have license plates and must be street legal(well, you have to drive it on the street, so yeah that makes sense).
During thr actually event, the event starts with the 30 mile cruise, where there are 2 escort cars, that they have to follow and stay behind one and be infront of the other. They can not pass the front one or fall behind the rear escort. After the 30 mile cruise, who ever did not fall behind(or pass, I didn't forget about you passers) will make there 3 back to back pass, for their time.
At the end of the event, the top 3 fastest averages will win first, second and 3rd place(need me to tell which one gets what place?).
That is NMCA True Street, I myself say it seems like one of the most fun and exciting Nostalgia Drag Racing classes currently. It blends the cruising of the 50's and 60's and it gives it a nice street racing feel to the event. Maybe it will event bring back local legends, and create the old street racing rivalries again. Create Bob Falfa and John Milner, just this time more organized and for cash!
